My task was to get dicom files, create dicomdir and write on CD. To do it I wrote a simple program (it was also my studying C#). The dcmmkdir utility creates a DICOMDIR file from the specified referenced DICOM files according to the DICOM Part 11 Media Storage Application Profiles.
Sante Dicommander is a command-line anonymizer, dicomizer and converter by Santesoft for DICOM files of any type and manufacturer. Create DICOMDIR files in folders. A Example of DICOMDIR File Content. Which is simply intended to help the reader better understand the organization of a DICOM Directory stored in a DICOMDIR File.
I am looking for a standalone tool (for Windows XP) that generates a DICOMDIR file from a directory containing DICOM images. I have looked at http://www.tomovision.com/products/dicom_dir.htm but it gives me a runtime error. Can anyone recommend any tool for this purpose? /douglas-farr-sustainable-urbanism-pdf/.kartikqkartikq

I managed to generate the DICOMDIR using dcm4che http://www.dcm4che.org. I used the dcmdir tool: dcmdir -c exam_folder/DICOMDIR exam_folder/kartikqkartikq

The DICOM Toolkit (DCMTK) from Offis at http://dicom.offis.de/ contains such a tool named dcmmkdir.
If you keep getting runtime errors you should check your files for standard compliance. Offis also has a tool for checking DICOM files against the standard, but this one must be licensed separately.

The DICOMDIR structure should refer the actual files containing the images: the '*dcm' files should already be there
